About BenchHand

Built by a woodworker, for woodworkers.

BenchHand is made by Derek, a hobbyist woodworker and software developer.

The story

I’m Derek. I’m a hobbyist woodworker and a software developer, and I like making things, solving problems and finding better ways to get things done.

Whether I’m making a small keepsake box, building a new jig or seeing what a piece of scrap wood can turn into, I’m usually looking for a way to make the job easier, more accurate and more fun.

That’s where BenchHand came from. It started as an idea for a simple woodworking project calculator and grew into something bigger: a workshop companion that keeps project planning, measurements, cut lists, material estimates and handy tools together in one place.

I’m not a professional furniture maker, and BenchHand isn’t a big software company. It’s one woodworker who knows the frustrations of the hobby and wanted to build something genuinely useful for people who share it.

BenchHand is still growing, and so are my skills in the shop. The projects, tools and resources you’ll find here come from real builds, lessons learned and plenty of trial and error.

My goal is simple: less time figuring things out, and more time building.

Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to BenchHand.— Derek
