Questions and answers

The short version of where BenchHand is today, and what you can use right now.

The app

Can I download the BenchHand app?

Not yet. BenchHand is an Android app in development, and the beta is being prepared. It isn’t on Google Play yet. The beta page will be updated first when invitations open.

Which phones will it run on?

Android phones running Android 7.0 or later. There is no iPhone version at the moment.

Does the app need an account or an internet connection?

No. There is no sign-in, and the app works offline. Your projects and records stay on your phone unless you export or share a file yourself.

What can the app do?

Plan projects to your own sizes with exact cut lists and dimensioned drawings, use Quick Tools for fractions and board feet, and browse a wood library. Some features are in preview builds only. The features page labels each one.

What can I use for free right now?

Four workshop calculators for fractions, conversions, board feet and shelf spacing, which run in your web browser, and a free printable wooden chip clips plan. There’s no sign-up.

Are the printable plans free?

Yes. Published plans are free PDF downloads with no sign-up. A plan is published only after it has been reviewed and approved, so the library grows slowly.

Will the templates print at the right size?

They will if you print at 100% / Actual size with “Fit to page” turned off. Each template has a 1 inch square and rulers, so you can measure them before cutting. The printing guide explains how.

Do you track visitors?

No. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics, ads or tracking scripts. See the privacy page.
